Hello! I’m Kareyna, and I’m a CPA dedicated to serving the cannabis industry. I’ve been working with and helping small businesses since 2010. 

I’m a former financial statement auditor and started my work in public accounting with Plante and Moran before moving on to work with and advise businesses in the private sector, and then finally creating my own firm focusing on the needs of small businesses. As Michigan’s medical marijuana industry began to grow, I founded LC Solutions Michigan PLLC, a Flint-based accounting firm dedicated to advancing the marijuana industry, and we’re excited to work with marijuana microbusinesses. My staff and I have formed a network of like-minded CPAs and accountants that serve the entire state of Michigan. It’s an exciting time to be working in cannabis.

Accounting is one of those aspects of a business that people either enjoy learning about or simply wish to avoid—but not knowing how to navigate and understand the accounting challenges around marijuana can leave you vulnerable and at risk. Scott Roberts will provide an overview of state requirements for Marijuana Microbusiness licenses and will examine different business models used in other states, such as California and Nevada, with similar laws. He aims to educate caregivers and other Michigan residents looking to enter Michigan’s recreational marijuana market on the new microbusiness license and how to best set up a marijuana microbusiness for long-term success.

Hi there, I’m Scott. Nothing makes people more anxious than a lawyer. Relax. I’m a cannabis attorney and that’s about as chill as it gets.

I’m here to help get your business up and running and keep everything on the right side of the law. There are a lot of aspects of operating a marijuana microbusiness that requires the expertise of a cannabis business attorney and I’ve been working with clients across Michigan since 2014 in forming their businesses as well as making sure that they are fully compliant with the rules of the Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act.

My firm currently assists medical marijuana companies seeking state and municipal licensure. We also assist clients in drafting and negotiating contracts, with corporate formations and structuring, and regulatory compliance issues. My firm is especially excited about recreational marijuana businesses, and the marijuana microbusiness in particular.  Before deciding to specialize in cannabis law and now marijuana microbusiness law, I was a corporate and healthcare attorney for a large AM200 Law Firm based in Detroit.

I decided that I wanted to be my own boss and created Scott F. Roberts Law in 2014.

Anthony Sabatella, President of THC123, made the transition into the cannabis industry on April 20th, 2018. THC123 is a Professional Employer Organization specifically focused on the cannabis industry. The PEO model enables small business owners to outsource the responsibility of Human Resource management to a professionally qualified and licensed third party organization. Anthony is currently the Director of Risk Management and Workers’ Comp for America’s Back Office –his father’s Professional Employment Organization (PEO).

America’s Back Office has been in business for the last 20 years and is currently licensed to do business in all 50 states. Anthony utilized the infrastructure at ABO and repurposed it directly for the cannabis industry. With understanding the difficultly of creating internalized HR procedures from scratch as a brand-new company, Anthony created a company to alleviate these issues to help cannabis companies grow on demand and lower labor costs through leveraging economies of scale savings.

For example, the average cost to hire a HR Director, a vital piece needed by every company, would be $40,000 or $50,000, conservatively. If that same company has 20 employees, to outsource the functions of the HR Director to a PEO may only cost $30,000, a savings of $10,000 along with a much more dynamic product to help businesses grow.
